True or false? “A photograph is shaped more by the person behind the camera than by what’s in front of it.”

In this project, 6 Photographers Asked to Shoot Portraits of 1 Man… With a Twist, each photographer was told something different about the man they were to photograph, with fascinating results. The photographers captured what they expected to see.

Bu then here’s a video interview with Andrew Maclear in which he says “In the end these pictures are really given to you. You don’t make them. You put a frame around the person who’s in front of you.”  Which made me think about the first article again. The man also acted differently with each photographer, playing the roles they were led to expect from him, so perhaps he was “giving the photos to them”. What do you think?
